Dial 911 for police, ambulance, fire, or tourist emergencies. The system works nationwide, including from most mobile phones, and English-speaking operators are available for tourists. Costa Rica also operates a dedicated Tourist Police emergency support system to assist international visitors.

- 1132 → CCSS (Caja) public hospital emergencies.
- 1118 → Fire Department (Bomberos).
- 800-8000-645 (OIJ) → Judicial Investigation Police for serious crimes.
- 2222-9330 → Traffic Police (Tránsito) for road accidents.
- 2258-1008 / 2258-1022 → Tourist Police (Policía Turística) in San José.
- 2519-2000 → U.S. Embassy after-hours emergency line (for deaths, arrests, etc.).
